Hansjörg Oberdörfer cultivates his herbs, which bear the South Tyrolean seal of quality, at varying altitudes from 1100 to 1800 metres above sea level in the high mountains. He is actively supported in this by his family – “and by our experience, our lifeblood.”
The herbal expertise at Fasui results, in part, from many years of experimentation and improvements. Using drying techniques and programmes developed to some extent independently, Hansjörg Oberdörfer and his family produce highly aromatic herbs and spices with the South Tyrolean seal of quality.
Their work at Fasui is assisted by the special climate in South Tyrol’s Vinschgau valley. “The altitude, the cool climate and the poor soil prevent the plants from growing too vigorously, and so their valuable contents remain very concentrated by nature”, explains Hansjörg Oberdörfer.
The wide variety of soil types and altitudes across their land allows the family to cultivate numerous different herbs and flowers. After being carefully checked for taste and aroma, the herbs are skilfully coordinated and combined by Fasui to create refined herbal mixtures, which find use in herbal infusions, herbal salts and body care products.
“Our work is in nature and with nature, and brings an infinite number of possibilities, which means it is always interesting”, says Hansjörg Oberdörfer. The fact that his true driving force comes from a passion for cultivating herbs, and the joy he derives from this, is also evident when asked about his long-term goals. Oberdörfer’s wish is that “In ten years’ time, we will still find pleasure in the opportunities that cultivating herbs affords us”.
